Der Maler Allda-Eugen de Bruycker (geb.1901 - gest. 1981) entstammt einer flämischen Hugenottenfamilie, die als Protestanten verfolgt im 17. Jahrhundert ihre angestammte Heimat verlässt und zunächst in Schleswig Zuflucht und Anstellung am Schloss Gottorp findet.

Herzog Christian-Albrecht (1659-1694) schätzt den Geist und die Tatkraft der Hugenotten, ihren Fleiß und ihre aufrechte Haltung. Sie sind willkommen in seinem Land, zwischen Nord- und Ostsee, dem heutigen Schleswig-Holstein.

Jacques de Bruycker (1660-1711) - der Vorfahre von Allda-Eugen de Bruycker - verdingt sich als fürstlicher Futtermarschall und Feldtrompeter, später bekommt er das Lehnsrecht für die ''Vähr zu Missund'' zugesprochen. Das Lehnsrecht bleibt 118 Jahre im Besitz der Fährleute de Bruycker.

Nicht ''Untertan'', sondern frei sein im Geist, eigenverantwortlich handeln, der Freiheit zu dienen, das sind Tugenden, die sich über die Jahrhunderte durch die Vita der de Bruycker - Familie ziehen.

Hans-Jacob Theodor de Bruycker (geb.1823 - gest. 04.08.1898) wendet sich dem Malerhandwerk zu und gründet 1853 eine eigene Firma für Anstreicher- und Malerarbeiten in Altona, ein seinerzeit noch unter dänischer Verwaltung stehender Vorort von Hamburg. Im Jahre 1885 wanderte er mit seiner Familie in die USA aus. Sohn Hermann bleibt als einziger in Deutschland.

Am 16. Dezember 1858 wird sein Sohn Hermann de Bruycker geboren. In der väterlichen Werkstatt macht er erste Bekanntschaft mit Pinsel und Farbe, dabei entdeckt er schon früh seine Leidenschaft zur Malerei.

Lehr- und Wanderjahre führen ihn durch Deutschland. Er studiert Malerei in München und Berlin und bekommt schließlich den Bürgerbrief für die Freie- und Hansestadt Hamburg.

1888 erhält Hermann de Bruycker als freischaffender Maler seinen ersten großen Auftrag: Die Ausmalung des Deckengewölbes des Hamburger Stadttheaters der heutigen Hamburgischen Staatsoper wird ihm übertragen. Auf acht großformatigen Tafelbildern werden ausgewählte Persönlichkeiten, der Dicht- und Tonkunst dargestellt.

Zur gleichen Zeit wird er in Hamburg als Lehrer an die Staatliche Gewerbeschule und an die Rudolf- Steiner-Kunstschule berufen.

Eine besondere Ehre wird Hermann de Bruycker zuteil, als der Hamburger Senat ihn zur künstlerischen Ausschmückung des neuen Hamburger Rathauses heranzieht.

Hier entsteht ein mannshoher Wandfries mit dem Titel: Aus dem Leben eines Bürgers von der Wiege bis zum Grabe.

Dieser Staatsauftrag macht den Namen de Bruycker mit einem Schlage stadtbekannt. Die Folge: Eine Vielzahl von privaten Aufträgen schließen sich an.

1890 lässt er sich in Hamburg - Eilbek eine große Stadtvilla mit Atelierräumen errichten, in der er fortan mit seiner Ehefrau Dorothea und den elf Kindern lebt und arbeitet, Sohn Allda-Eugen ist der jüngste Spross der Familie.

1908 erhält Hermann einen weiteren Großauftrag: Die Gestaltung der Kirchenfenster für St. Katharinen in Hamburg. Ein ebenso künstlerisch hochrangiger, wie finanziell bedeutender Auftrag.

1909 stellt sich Hermann de Bruycker einer erneuten Herausforderung: Die Gestaltung des Hamburger Festzuges zum 16. Deutschen Bundesschießen wird ihm übertragen.

In seinem Atelierhaus erlebt Hermann de Bruycker glückliche Jahre im Kreis seiner großen Familie. Hier entstehen Hunderte von Illustrationen, surreale Märchenwelten und realistische Landschaften auf großformatigen Gemälden. Hier werden Feste gefeiert, im großen Bekanntenkreis und in kleinem Freundeskreis. Hier treffen sich Künstler und Kaufleute - „Linke wie Rechte“ - und Menschen, ganz unterschiedlichen Glaubens. Aus dem Atelier des Künstlers werden Rundfunksendungen - „frühe Talk-Shows“ - übertragen.

Studien-Reisen führen ihn nach Paris und New York, und immer wieder in seine geliebte Lüneburger Heide und in den Hamburger Hafen. Er verfügt über ein geräumiges Segelboot auf der Elbe, auf dem er auch Nachwuchskünstlern Malunterricht erteilt.

In der Heide betreibt er mit seinen Söhnen Landwirtschaft auf einem eigenen Bauernhof, mit dazu gehöriger Jagd in Undeloh.

Hermann de Bruycker durchlebt drei Kriege: 1870/71 1914/18 und 1939 bis 1945.

Sie verletzen nicht nur seine Seele - Auch zwei seiner Söhne zählen zu deren sinnlosen Opfern.

Hermann de Bruycker hasst Gewaltherrschaft und Terror, Unterdrückung und Unfreiheit, hält sich fern von „nationalistischen Verlockungen“ und doch bleibt er im Grunde seines Herzens dieser Nordischen Heimat , die einst seinen Vorfahren Freiheit und Schutz bot, treu verbunden. Ein Patriot, der auch sich selbst treu bleibt.

Ein aufrichtig, liebenswerter Mensch, der in seinem Vorgarten keine Fahne hießt an Führers Geburtstag, dafür lieber in die stille Heide fährt und malt.

Im Sommer 1943 zerstört eine alliierte Luftmine in Sekunden Haus und Lebenswerk von Hermann de Bruycker.

Auch die Kirchenfenster von St. Katharinen und die Deckengemälde des Stadt Theaters fallen den Bomben zum Opfer.

In unermüdlicher Arbeit versucht er bis zu seinem Tod einen Teil seines zerstörten Lebenswerkes neu zu gestalten. Doch an die Schaffenskraft früher Jahre anzuknüpfen, ist ihm nicht mehr vergönnt.

Am 23. März 1950 stirbt er im Alter von 92 Jahren in seinem geliebten Hamburg.

In Museen und in Privatbesitz hat ein kleiner Teil seiner Arbeiten die Zeit des Krieges „überlebt“. Unter anderem in den Atelierhäusern seiner Söhne Bernhard, Richard und Berthold de Bruycker sowie im Malerhaus von Allda-Eugen de Bruycker auf dem Höpenberg bei Schneverdingen.

Allda-Eugen de Bruycker, geboren am 7. April 1901 in Hamburg, jüngster Sohn von Hermann und Dorothea de Bruycker, findet über das Theater zu früher und erfolgreicher Bühnenbild-Gestaltung seinen künstlerischen Weg. Nach 1945 erst beginnt die Hinwendung zur Landschaftsmalerei, die in späteren Jahren zunehmend ihren Ausdruck in einer themenbezogenen Bildgestaltung, bis hin zu Abstraktion führt.

Auch Allda - Eugen de Bruycker erfährt zunächst eine künstlerische Ausbildung beim Vater, der ihn schon frühzeitig an öffentlichen Aufträgen und deren Ausführung teilhaben läst. Schifffahrtslinien wie die HAPAG, Hamburg-Süd, Norddeutscher Lloyd, aber auch Werften wie Blohm und Voss, Deutsche Werft, zählen zum Kundenkreis des Vaters.

Ab 1914 tritt Allda-Eugen de Bruycker zunächst in eine, für ihn ungeliebte, Lithographenlehre. Daneben nimmt er Sprech- und Gesangsunterricht und tritt in kleinen Rollen an Theatern auf. Es folgen Studien an der Kunstschule in Hamburg, doch sein Hauptinteresse gilt zunächst dem Bühnenbild.

Bei den Kritikern finden diese frühen Arbeiten zunehmend große Anerkennung und bald zählen die Deutsche Bühne, die Hamburger Volksbühne, die Theatergruppe der Bühnengenossenschaft Hamburg, zu den potentiellen Auftraggebern von Allda-Eugen de Bruycker.

Erste Auslandsreise führt ihn 1932 nach Westindien und Nordamerika. Auf dieser Reise entstehen ausdrucksstarke, erlebnisreiche Bilder und Zeichnungen aus der „Neuen Welt“.

Nach Rückkehr aus den USA gründet er in Hamburg ein Atelier für Bühnenausstattung. Kreative Ideengebung und neue Formen der Bühnengestaltungen begünstigen seinen weiteren Erfolg in der Branche.

1932 heiratet Allda-Eugen de Bruycker seine Jugendliebe Elsa-Maria geb. Piening, 1934 wird Sohn Gondrand-Marius-Allda geboren.

1936 folgt eine weitere Amerikareise mit der Familie. Nach dieser Reise erkennt A.-E. wie ihn die Freunde nennen, dass der Frieden langsam zu verblassen beginnt. Die braunen Machthaber tragen einen Heiligenschein und er spürt, dessen Licht wird die Welt verdunkeln.

Gemeinsam mit seiner Frau verwirklicht A.-E. zwischen 1937 und 1940 - während der Zweite Weltkrieg bereits erste Zerstörungen in Polen anrichtet - seinen Traum:

Auf dem Höpenberg bei Schneverdingen entsteht das Atelierhaus de Bruycker.

Mehr und mehr wendet sich Allda-Eugen de Bruycker nun der Landschaftsmalerei zu, er selbst tritt in den Hintergrund, beruft sich auf seine Immunität als Staatenloser. In der Abgeschiedenheit der Lüneburger Heide will A.-E. die Familie, zu der nun auch Tochter Elsa-Maria sowie Sohn Eugen-Jan-Volker gehören, vor dem Schlimmsten bewahren. Er geht in die innere Emigration, er malt stille Bilder der Landschaft und er will überleben: den Krieg, die Nazis und die Zeit des Schreckens. Er will die Familie durchbringen, ohne die Züge des menschlichen zu verlieren. Er lebt und überlebt vom Verkauf seiner Bilder, aber auch von einer eigenen Schafzucht und mit Hilfe guter Menschen, die ihm nahe stehen. 

Gondrand de Bruycker 1934 in Hamburg geb. lebt heute auf dem Höpenberg bei Schneverdingen. Er hat zwei Kinder: Sohn Ben aus erster Ehe und Tochter Julia aus zweiter Ehe mit Marlis de Bruycker, einer Cutterin.

Gondrand geht nach der Schule zunächst an die Kunstakademie nach Hamburg. Belegt die Studienfächer für Grafik und freie Malerei bei Prof. Kaschack.

Anschließend besucht er die staatlich anerkannte Kunstschule Pit von Frihling , um sich einer praxisbezogeneren Ausbildung zu stellen.

1959 wechselt er das Metier, geht nach Düsseldorf zur Deutschen Industrie- und Dokumentarfilmproduktion (DIDO). Es folgt eine achtjährige Ausbildung unter Mitwirkung namhafter Regisseure und Drehbuchautoren.

Seit 1969 ist er als freischaffender Drehbuchautor und Regisseur tätig (weiter Infos hier als pdf). An die 140 Filme sind entstanden. unter anderem für die Industrie und Wirtschaft, für das Fernsehen, die verschiedensten Institutionen und Ministerien sowie für das Presse- und Informationsamt der Bundesregierung.

Auf dem Höpenberg bei Schneverdingen verwaltet Gondrand de Bruycker die ständige Gemäldeausstellung der Malerfamilie de Bruycker.

Auf Wunsch führt er die Gäste durch die umfangreiche Ausstellung.

Gondrand de Bruycker ist außerdem Mitglied des Vorstandes der in 2002 gegründeten Stiftung:
